I Am An Atom

David Huglin is a young up-and-coming artist from Liverpool. His unique illustrative prints and pictures have won him awards. Having begun a blog on the popular Blogger service he was keen to unite his website iamanatom.com and his blog into one site. I had worked with David before to document his work and linked him with his first web-designer. This time around David wanted a site that was easier to manage and understand than his previous MODx based one and would give him on eplace to manage all his online activity.

Since Wordpress is both simple to manage and is now increasingly being used to display porfolios (like our site) we opted to completely rebuild his old ste using Ian Stuarts excellent Thematic Framework as a base. From start to finish the process was quick and I was able to collaborate directly with David on things like color scheme and font choice and demonstrate them almost immediately. Using the new (and almost standard) @font-face CSS font embedding technique we were able to add custom header and link fonts quickly and easily with good cross browser compatibility.

Feedburner handles his subscriptions automatically and Wordpress does the rest it couldn’t be simpler and soon we’ll be making it even easier for people like David to use Wordpress to design sites on their own when we release some visual design plugins later this year. Check out the site using the link above and enjoy David’s eccentric humour for yourself.
