Pilar Corrias

Pilar Corrias Gallery opened in the heart of London’s West End on 16th October 2008. Committed to the realisation and presentation of ideas, Pilar Corrias Gallery seeks to reinstate the idea that the art object and its meaning exist before its market value. Created by the internationally acclaimed architect and conceptualist Rem Koolhaas/The Office for Metropolitan Architecture, the gallery’s physical manifestation is determined by the major functions and needs of the gallery providing a room for exhibition and a room for private viewing alongside management offices and storage space. The 3,800 sq foot space will be indefinitely changeable and transformable for each exhibition, with plans for large-scale projects expanding beyond the physical boundaries of the gallery.

Second Variety and Qrupa undertook extensive development for the new Pilar Corrias website. Anne Odling-Smee of O-SB Design comissioned us to take the old website which was built in Flash and update it to use HTML5 Web Standards and full CSS and Javascript. Using the design provided by OS-B we used WordPress and the excellent TwentyTenFive HTML5 theme as our base to build a custom Child Theme. Using the state of the art MediaElement.js we enabled HTML5 video with a Silverlight and Flash fall back option for older broswers. WordPress’ built attachment and gallery system for organising media was the perfect base to enable us to build an easy to manage site featuring the portfolio’s and exhibitions of some of the most exciting young visual artists today.
